S. B. Sane
holds M. E. degree in Water Resources Development from the University
of Roorkee, India - a central university catering for Afro Asian
countries. Working since 1993 on farmers' participation in irrigation
management, organising farmers into Water Users' Associations
(WUAs), finalising Bye-laws and MoUs between Government and WUAs,
training of farmers in O & M of the tertiary irrigation system,
providing assistance to WUAs in increasing water use efficiency
for increasing productivity and production. Has worked as an Associate
Professor in WALMI, Aurangabad. Has long experience of 45 years
in various aspects of irrigation works, namely, planning, designing,
construction and operation and management. |

R. K. Patil
holds M. A. degree and post-graduate diploma from John Hopkins
University, USA. Headed Project Formulation Cell (Irrigation)
of Maharashtra Government. Was Expert Consultant to Maharashtra
State Government in their negotiations with the World Bank. Initiated
16 Water Users' Associations (WUAs) in Mula Irrigation Project
under the umbrella of SOPPECOM. Active participation in water
management seminars held in China, Sri Lanka and Mexico. Was a
member of the SOPPECOM team, which prepared the document "Amendment
to Irrigation Act for Participatory Irrigation Management"
for the Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India. Co-authored
the book "Farmer Participation in Irrigation Management:
A Case Study of Maharashtra" and has also contributed many
papers and articles on this subject to many seminars and journals.

Suhas Paranjape
has a B.Tech (Chem) from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
Has actively participated in different movements like People's
Science Movement, Adivasi agricultural labourers' movement, etc.
Has participated as a core team member and consultant in many
action research studies and pilot projects undertaken by Centre
for Applied Systems Analysis in Development (CASAD) and Society
for Promoting People's Participation in Ecosystem Management (SOPPECOM),
Pune in the areas of participatory management of natural resources
specially in the field of participatory irrigation management.
For three years from 1996 to 1999 worked as a core team member
of the Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti (BGVS) in its watershed development
project across the country.
